2025: a year of growth for EMCC

EMCC launched in September 2023, building upon 5 years of the Gender Equal Media Scotland project, which was set up to monitor the representation of women in Scottish media.
2025 was a year of growth, and highlights included:
- Releasing new research into women’s lived experiences of EDI initiatives
- Partnering on an EDI co-learning network with Culture Counts, and commissioning six artist creative responses to the concept
- Collaborating on an ongoing research project with Creative Balance
- Appearing at many partner events including one at the Scottish Parliament’s Festival of Politics
- Advocating for gender equity with MSPs
- Working with Film Hub Scotland to survey Film Exhibition sector workers on gender equity
- Releasing our first-ever manifesto
- Hosting our inaugural in-person conference.
We’re grateful to all our partners and stakeholders for a productive and positive year in the promotion of gender equity in Scotland’s arts, culture, media and creative industries.
We are looking ahead to a busy 2026, bringing our manifesto asks to political parties and advocating for gender equity in the run up to the Scottish Parliament elections in May. We’ll be releasing some exciting new research in January, and working with Film Hub Scotland to analyse the data from our recent Gender Equity in Scottish Film Exhibition survey.
