UPCOMING: Where were the women of colour? An analysis of Scottish media coverage during the 2024 General Election.
We are delighted to welcome Talat Yaqoob of Pass the Mic, journalist Assa Samaké-Roman, Professor Karen Boyle and researcher Melody House to speak about both the vital work of Pass the Mic and our collaboration to monitor the representation of women of colour in Scottish media during election periods.
Over the past five years Pass the Mic have been working to tackle the under-representation and misrepresentation of women of colour in Scotland’s media. Alongside developing media skills and building a searchable database of women of colour expert commentators, founder Talat Yaqoob has also been conducting media monitoring research in partnership with the University of Strathclyde and the Equal Media and Culture Centre for Scotland.
Join us for an engaging session on the impact Pass the Mic has had on Scottish media, and to hear from the University of Strathclyde research team on the findings of our research into the coverage of the UK General Election in July this year.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the webinar. Please note that this event will be live captioned, with captions available both in Zoom and via Streamtext for further accessiblity.
