New research: From token to transformation - the impact of Creative Scotland’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan requirements.
Our research was designed to run independently alongside the Scottish Government’s Independent Review of Creative Scotland, which was published in November 2025. Our aim is to ensure specific EDI insights on Creative Scotland’s processes were made publicly available, and to keep EDI within focus. The paper offers actionable recommendations to enhance Creative Scotland’s EDI requirements, and to help move beyond tokenistic tick boxes.
Culture funding: where are we now?
On Monday 11 October, the Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee published their scrutiny of the culture portfolio ahead of the Scottish Government’s 2025-26 budget. Over 50 Scottish organisations in the arts and culture sector contributed their views as evidence for the committee – including us at EMCC. EMCC Responds to Culture Budget Protests with Open Letter
The Equal Media and Culture Centre for Scotland are deeply concerned by the recent events surrounding the sudden closure of Creative Scotland’s Open Fund for Individuals. The funding body took action to close the Open Fund due to a lack of clarity from the Scottish Government regarding £6.6m in funding allocated to the funder.
